On the same weekend as the multicultural festival, a group of KW New Democrats were out cleaning University Avenue, adopted as part of the Waterloo Adopt-a-Road program. Another picture here.
Cindy Jacobsen and other KW and Kitchener Centre New Democrats were out at the Multicultural Festival on June 21 and 22. We have more pictures here.
On June 8th the KW NDP joined Kitchener Centre NDP in a wonderful day on Roos Island in Victoria Park. The music in the air and the weather co-operated. Local candidates Cindy Jacobson and Oz Cole-Arnal informed the public about our policy on Afghanistan and peace. It was also a great place to network with organizations that share the same goal. We look forward to attending again next year.
For more information about the KW Non-Violence Festival check out their website here.
KW New Democrats were at the tri-Pride Festival at the end of May, and at the fourth annual Non-Violence Festival in Victoria Park on June 8. Our participation in these festivals is part of our continuing focus on participating in and supporting worthwhile initiatives in the KW community. Our thanks to the organizers of these events.
This weekend (June 21-22) some New Democrats will be cleaning our newly-adopted stretch of University Avenue from Westmount to Fischer-Hallman. Meanwhile, others will be at the KW Multicultural Festival. If you would like to take part in either, just send us a note through the contact form.
The Kitchener-Waterloo NDP has "adopted" University Avenue between Westmount and Fisher-Hallman as part of the city of Waterloo's Adopt-a-Road program. That means that we are responsible for keeping it clean (two cleanups a year should do it) and we get signage at both ends giving us credit for doing so.
The KW New Democrats will have a booth at the KW Multicultural Festival on June 21 and 22, 2008, and we're looking for volunteers.
If you are interested if brushing up on the NDP's immigration platform and would like to engage others at the KWNDP's booth at the Multicultural Festival, please send us a note via the contact form.
You will be paired with a subject matter expert on immigration issues to staff the booth for one to two hours.
The K-W New Democrats are hosting the acclaimed Oscar-winning film Taxi to the Dark Side at the Princess Twin Cinemas, 46 King Street North, Waterloo on Tuesday, April 8 at 6:50 PM.
Taxi to the Dark Side is an in-depth look at the torture practices of the United States in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, focusing on an innocent taxi driver in Afghanistan who was tortured and killed in 2002.
Rev. Cindy Jacobsen speaks about war and torture, following the feature presentation.
Here is the write-up from The Record's Greg Mercer on Bill Blaikie's talk. There are some photos in the Gallery.

There's a "great moral darkness" in a world where factory owners can close up shop and move away just to help their bottom lines, MP Bill Blaikie warned yesterday.
There were no hymns to accompany his sermon on Sunday, just singalongs with Peter, Paul and Mary folk songs from the 1960s.
